The size and shape of a woman’s breasts can often play a critical role in a woman’s self image.  Women who are discontent with their breast size can often feel self-conscious or even embarrassed about their appearance.  We offer a variety of breast enhancement procedures that will give the breasts a more balanced, symmetrical look while still appearing natural and beautiful.  Talk to the doctor during your initial consultation about the available breast enhancement procedures.

Breast Shape is determined primarily by the overlying skin and the ligaments (Suspensory Ligaments of Cooper) that connect the breast skin to the underlying muscles.  If the skin and/or ligaments are stretched, the breast loses shape (less projection) and sags (ptosis).  The most common causes are pregnancy, aging with loss of breast volume, and going without adequate support, especially when exercising.

I advise all of my patients following breast surgery of any kind, whether augmentation, lifting, or reduction, that if they want to maintain their new shape, they should always wear a bra during the day and never exercise without adequate support.  It's fine to sleep without a bra and go without a bra during the day once in a while.

Exercise, especially activities such as  jogging and aerobics, place the greatest stress on breast skin, ligaments, and shape.  I instruct my patients to avoid what I call the "unibra".  These types of exercise bras are frequently made of stretchy, soft material, without individual cups and without underwires.  They flatten the breast and provide inadequate support.

The ideal exercise bra should be made of soft but not distensible material and have individual cups to maintain shape and minimize stretch of the skin.It should also have underwires to maintain inframammary crease definition, limit motion of the breast over the underlying muscle and thus minimize stretch of the ligaments.
